Tutorial:-

A slight change of plan due to staff availability at college, we've had to put forward the date of our filming to tomorrow (5th October) as a result, we had a tutorial from Jamie Oliver (our media expert) on how to use Final Cut Express and a small recap on using the video cameras. Towards the end of the lesson, we then got small amount of time to play around and experiment with the program to help understand how it all works ready for when we actually have our footage.

Filming Details:-

We have discussed as a group some ideas for our storyboard, we began to come up with some ideas and created a plan for the creation of our product. We each started to draw up a rough story board and agreed that we would each individually complete the second draft at home in order to save time in lessons. We then made decisions regarding the jobs and responsibilities the group needed to consider and set a date for filming our product- which was the 4th October.

Three Techniques:-

Today we had to research the three key techniques that we are to include in our preliminary task. We had to write a definition of each technique and then find a couple of different examples from you tube to prove we understood what each technique was. These were the 180 degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot.

>MATCH ON ACTION
This shot shows continuity of an action, two different shot types are used to show an action. One shot is used to show the first part of the action before the camera cuts to another shot type from exactly the same place it left off- making the shooting seem continuous.
Examples:-
1.       http:/www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHh12JHjTg&feature=related

>SHOT REVERSE SHOT
This technique is used to show a character looking at another character, who may well be off or on screen. The camera then changes to show the second character looking back towards the first character. As the characters are shown to be facing different directions it appears that they are looking at each other, it is normally used when characters are having a conversation.

>THE 180 DEGREE RULE
This technique suggests that two characters should always have the same left/right relationship to each other when in a scene together. If the rule is broken, it disorientates the audience as the character originally facing the left is now facing the right.

Blogger:-

Today we were shown how to set up a blog. This is going to be vital throughout our coursework as it will be the basis of where all our work is collected.

The Preliminary Task- AS Media Studies.

As our preliminary task for AS media studies, we have been asked to film and edit a short sequence- showing a character opening a door, entering a room, crossing it and then sitting down. The character sat down must be positioned opposite another character with who he/she will then exchange a few lines of dialogue. The sequence should demonstrate match on action, shot-reverse-shot and the 180 degree rule.
